I’m always on the hunt for a great balm. I hate the feeling of chapped lips, especially during this winter season. I have 3 different balms to compare, all of which represent 3 different price points. So lets talk about the specs of each.
Let’s start with the belle of the bunch, the most expensive. Coming in at a hefty price tag of $28 (I know! Just for a lip balm) this Dior Crème de Rose lip balm is said to give nourishment to you lips while plumping it at the same time. It comes in a light pink hue and gives off a lovely fresh rose scent. This comes with 0.25oz. Shop: Sephora
The mid price balm is by the brand Korres comes in at $12. It is described as a rich buttery balm that melts on the lips leaving a shiny tinted finish. Korres lip butter balms are formulated with natural oils and extracts, made without parabens and sulfate free. I have mine in a Jasmine scent. This comes with 0.21oz. Shop: Sephora
The last of the bunch, the least expensive coming in at $1.89 is by Vaseline, has a sheer light pink tint and a light rose scent. This claims to instantly lock in moisture, for soft pink lips. This comes with 0.25oz. Shop: Target
The winners in comparing all 3 based on:
Texture: Dior Crème de Rose
Scent: Dior Crème de Rose/Vaseline Rosy lip
Price: Vaseline Rosy lip
As you can see, the mid range Korres balm didn’t win any of the categories for me, It’s more of a buttery feeling (just as it’s listed) and is not my cup of tea, plus the scent of it did not resemble a Jasmine scent in my opinion. It comes in at the least favorite of the bunch, and will not be a repurchase.
That leaves the most expensive with the least expensive. I have been a fan of the Dior Crème do Rose balm for some time, as this is my 3rd bottle I’ve gone through. Its consistency and scent is beautiful! It leaves my lips smooth and has a long lasting wear. I usually wear it overnight and it's still on my lips with a light rose scent when I wake up, creating a soft base for my lips for the day. I don't think it leaves my lips looking or feeling plump though, but that’s not something I’m looking for.
The Vaseline Rosy lip balm has more of a waxy consistency, which is not my favorite, but I can live with. It has a nice pink tint to it, and a pretty rosy smell. While the lasting power is not as long as the Dior Crème de Rose, it has a well performance compatible to its price point.
Final thoughts about this battle is that if you want to treat yourself and your lips and are a fan of rosy scents, I would say splurge for the Dior Crème de Rose. A tip is to wait for Sephora to have its annual sales which offers 15%off anything in the store. This is usually when I purchase mine since it’s a chance to save a few bucks on a very expensive balm. If you are in the market for just an overall good balm that will give you that bang for your buck, the Vaseline rosy lip balm is a great choice! It’s a great everyday balm to use, which does what it says and is at a reasonable price.
When it comes to everyday makeup I stick to the basics. This tinted moisturizer has been my go to for an everyday easy look. I’m not a fan of really heavy foundation. I tend to stick to lighter foundations with lighter coverage. I discovered this Amazonian clay BB tinted moisturizer by Tarte a few months ago and have been using it non-stop. Here are the specs:
When it comes to choosing my makeup, all the information and the specs that is marketed can become overwhelming. As a minimalist in the foundation category, I base my decision on 3 simple things:
This product met the criteria’s I had going into choosing a new foundation and it has exceeded my expectations. Not only does it blend very well, it also has no scent to it (who wants that chemically smell on their face all day?!) and while it seemingly looks pricey compared to a drugstore brand, I don’t mind paying a little bit more for a better product. I love how it has SPF within it, I’m a big believer in everyone should wear sunscreen EVERYDAY. I also love how you can control how much product comes out of it, giving you the ability to control the amount of use on it. I paired it with a Tarte buffing brush, which is a dream and so easy to work with when applied, but you can use any brush or even your hands to apply it. So if you are in the market for a new lightweight coverage foundation for everyday use, this is a great option, one that i would highly recommend!
