So you are a beauty lover who has a fabulous makeup collection filled with so many different eye shadow colors, foundations in multiple shades and a lipstick for every occasion. Or you’ve got just the essentials that does its job and you make it stretch because you hate buying more product. Whichever category you fall in, we often forget or don’t know that all these makeup items have an expiration date.
Cosmetic companies have gotten better at printing the expiration date directly on the packaging or inside the cap, but if not, here is a quick overview and rundown of the life expectancy of these beauties.
Mascara: 2-3 months.
Liquid foundation/concealer: 6-12 months
Lip stick: 2 years
Lip-gloss: 1 year
Eye shadows: 2 years
Powder products: 2 years
Eyeliner: 6-12 months
Makeup Brushes: Years, with consistent cleaning
Now, I challenge you to look through your makeup collection find the expiration date or think about when you bought it. Chances are you will find at least one or a few items that are long past these guidelines of their due date. Sometimes we think that oh well I spent an obscene amount of money on this foundation, so I am using it sparingly making it last the longest possible. Well that spread has gone over one year, and your sitting there wondering why it smells funny, looks funny and isn’t working as you remembered it to. If you decide to splurge on a makeup items that you are totally in love with…USE IT! Don’t let it go to waste and hit its expiration date. It’s in its most beautiful state to be used not just put on a makeup vanity. When that expiration date has hit, it’s time to say goodbye.
I usually like to do a makeup purge every 6 months. This gives me the time to asses what I need or don’t need to replenish. It also gives me the time to rotate different products and be season appropriate. A typical rule of thumb I go by is if I have it, use it, if you don’t use it, lose it!

If you haven’t heard of Bite Beauty, they are a lip beauty brand that uses food grade ingredients, so yes, they are safe enough to eat! Not that you would want to, but when wearing a lipstick or lip-gloss, we are bound to digest some of it, so knowing that these products are safe enough to do so is great! Thanks to Influenster I am able to try the brand new lip pencils and the Amuse Bouche lipstick.
The Lip Pencil provides perfect, allover, opaque lip coverage. It glides on with ease, not like other lip pencils where you have to pull and tug at it, causing your lips to look patchy and dry. I love how easy and buttery these lip pencils are. Application is a breeze, and the wear is comfortable. It is very lightweight and pigmentation is superb. This color in Honeycomb is the perfect everyday nude, great for my skin tone.
The second color I received is the whiskey lipstick with the coinciding lip pencil to match. This dark plum color is very daring, one that I’m not use to, but for the right occasion, will be so much fun! When applying dark or vibrant colors, having a good precise lip pencil is key in keeping things nice and tidy.
The lipsticks are a creamy consistency, also gliding on with ease and have great pigmentation. These two products, the lip pencil and lipsticks are a great pairing with each other, but are also great stand-alone products too. I can see myself using the nude lip pencil to fill in my lips then apply a gloss over it for an everyday wear. Bite beauty is an innovative brand focusing on quality ingredients and great wear. If you like lip products that are hydrating, creamy and long lasting these are a must try! Thank you @influenster and @bitebeauty #theLipPencil #contest.
