3/27/2016 0 Comments Spring flingToday I’m sharing one of my favorite outfits for spring. It's one of those tops where i've had for many years, and still comes out each season, especially during spring. This lavender color makes things sweet and fresh, keeping it true to the spring theme. The ruffles around the neckline fall nicely, giving the top the right amount of detail. Made in a thicker material, it’s a great transitional piece that I'm able to wear with a jacket over if I need, or by itself like today. The weather here in San Diego has been nice and warm, which made me bring out my white shorts. Pairing something with white bottoms will give the look a nice crisp pop. I was always scared of wearing white, but the effect it gives us to our wardrobe is something that I really adore. I think it is especially nice on tan/darker complexions. The contrasting colors make for a lovely pair. My next piece I would like to add to my wardrobe is a good pair of white denim; I just haven’t found the right pair yet! Completing the look with a pair of sandals with great detailing, and some of my favorite jewels, they make for the perfect finishing. This overall look is fun, flirty and fashionable in every sense. 3/20/2016 0 Comments Be bold, Spring is hereI usually like to stick to my neutral colored shirts, but since it’s officially spring, its time for me to be bold and add my pop of colors. I’ve always been wary of bright colors, for one, I don’t really think bright colors look good on me, but two, I don’t want to be ‘too loud’ with my clothing, drawing attention to myself. Over time, I’ve become more comfortable with stepping out of my comfort zone of black/grey shirts and started wearing bright colors. I think choosing the right bold color can make things feel fresh, bright, and light, being very appropriate for spring. I’ve had this Orange top since last spring, but only wore it a handful of times because I felt uncomfortable with such a bold orange. It’s taken sometime, but I’m finally comfortable with wearing this top and feel good doing so. I’m a strong believer that you have to be comfortable and feel good about what you are wearing for it to look good on you. How you feel in a certain outfit, can change your posture, presence, and attitude about it. Paired with light wash denim kept this look casual, very suitable for a leisurely day out. I accented the top with some light jewelry, focusing on a pop of orange in my bracelet. And of course the handbag, i mean you can't go wrong with it! I think I feel more comfortable wearing this color now because my hair color at the moment is quite fitting and goes with the orange hue nicely. It’s interesting how our styles and taste can change in clothing over time. With a little bit of confidence and a bold color top, you too can shine bright during these upcoming spring months. Try to reach for something out of your comfort zone; you may be surprised about your reaction. Spring is the time to try and experience with colors, so I encourage you to go for it! You wont know until you try! Xoxo Sam 3/13/2016 0 Comments Spring is comingSpring is in the air, so what does that mean? Out goes the cashmere, heavy coats, wool based fabric, and in comes light, airy, flowing tops. The start of spring means warmer weather here in Southern California, but nights and mornings are still chilly. I can start to see my wardrobe selection changing. This is when I usually bring out my flowing tops, spring colors, dresses and sandals. While I am more of a fan of winter clothing because of all the accessories added to an outfit to make it stylish, I am looking forward to wearing one layered shirts, and begin to start wearing those kept away shorts for the past few months. With the weather getting warmer, I tend to reach for non-clinging clothes, meaning loose fitting. I don’t want my clothes latching on to me, especially with the warmer weather that tends to make me feel suffocated and uncomfortable. This top is from Joie, which is one of my favorite brands, especially during the spring/summer months. Its clothes have fresh, classic silhouettes giving you a stylish and effortless look. How fitting is the printed flowers, reminiscing all the blooming flowers in the area. Made in a long sleeve silhouette, it is just enough to keep me warm during my mornings, but airy enough to where it is breathable when it warms up during the day. Spring is the season where prints will appear, dresses will become a staple, and color makes its way into my wardrobe. We all have different complexions. Different shades work differently for each person. I often get asked by my styling clients what I think is missing from their wardrobe, or what they need. I always answer that question with my simple and basic guidelines to denim basics. Light, dark, and black. With these three washes and shades you can instantly change any look. A light wash is great for a casual daytime look. Here I’ve dressed each look with the same plain tee, and you can see the different type of look each wash gives to my image. I usually wear light washes when I’m going for that casual look. I like to keep things light during the day as I'm always on the go. Wearing light denim can instantly turn any “dressy” top down to have a casual feel. This is the wash I probably have the most of since I’m always in denim, and the most comfortable in. The second wash I recommend is a dark wash. I only recently started to love this shade. Find a pair that is the same dark wash all throughout the pair. This gives the look a more ‘night’ time appropriate denim look, or can make your daytime look more polished and formal. It’s easy to dress this look with a pair of heels for a great casual nighttime look. Plus it’s easy to pair with any top color. I usually wear this wash when I’m trying to look a little more sophisticated, but still have a slight casual feel since it is denim after all. This dark wash can also make you look more slender and elongate your stature. Finally, the last wash I recommend is black. When I say black, I don’t mean black slacks, but specifically black denim. Having a pair of black denim allows you to wear this pair with almost anything, and can go from casual to formal. Sometimes when I’m having a hard time matching a certain top or print to my denim, having a pair of jet black ‘denim’ pair makes it easier to do this while still keeping it casual and relaxed. In those instances where I want to dress it up, it is easily done with a pair of fancy heels, a light flowing top all styled the right way. These three washes are the basics of denim. If you are looking to update your wardrobe and want to incorporate key pieces, these denim basics of light, dark, and black are a must in any fashion lover’s closet. These three will give you the most versatility with just three different pairs. And, if you are looking to edit and de clutter your stack of denim, pick your favorite pair from the three categories and you’ll be set! Having a good wardrobe doesn’t mean you need to have an array of options to choose from, instead, it is important to have the right options that will give you the most out of every look. Xoxo Sam |
