Following last weeks post about staying fit and finding my love for barre, I’ve realized that sometimes it’s just not possible to make class and attend every class that I want to. Having to work around my kid’s schedule, and my husband’s work who is a Marine, sometimes I have to find alternate ways to stay active. Here are some moves I like to do and still watch my kids play at a park or even at home.
My daughter has loved soccer balls, so we finally bought one. Last weekend we drove to a soccer field and figured we’d let them run off some energy and have some fun. Boy was it fun! The kids had a blast, running, kicking the ball, while I managed to sneak in a few of my favorite work out moves. There was also a track where my son wanted to race. He was so fast I really had to try to keep up! Haha.
All in all we all had a blast, it was a great day to be outside and get in some physical activity for everyone. So even if going to a gym or workout class does not always fit into your schedule, you can still stay active, just be creative!
This week marked my one-year since starting Xtend barre. I’ve never been one to actually take a ‘workout’ class; I would rather go to the gym and work out at my own pace, on my own time. Well rewind back to 1 year ago, I finally took the chance and tried this new type of workout called barre. I was familiar with the term since I dance a little when I was a kid, and saw this as the perfect opportunity to dabble back into the barre aspect of ballet (which was always my favorite part). This decision to try it out was the best thing I could’ve done not only for my body, but my mind, and overall happiness.
Xtend Barre is defined as Pilates and dance amplified. It brings in elements of dance, ballet and Pilates to create an adrenaline-fueled workout that strengthens, lengthens and chisels the body. Most people think you need to have a dance background or be the best at coordination. You don’t, as long as you are comfortable with moving your body and follow along the best you can, that itself is a workout! Xtend barre doesn’t focus on just one aspect of the body; it gives you an all around body workout, head to toe, which is what I love best.
Xtend barre by the sea is my place to keep my body in shape and I have fun at the same time! I am there almost every day to get a good workout on and release any stress or tension I had from that day. The instructors are ALL so nice, helpful, and most importantly encouraging. I’ve met so many wonderful ladies, all of whom have made my workouts much more fun. Don’t get me wrong, Xtend Barre is a hard workout, challenges my mind and body still after 1 year. My body has definitely changed, becoming stronger, leaner and toned. If you’ve ever wondered about trying barre out, do it. I’m glad that I took the chance, and I ended up finding something that I love to do that is physically challenging, and so much fun all at the same time! Maybe I’ll see you at the barre soon!

Everyday life can be so hectic and busy sometimes. Do you have a sacred place that wheels you back in and grounds you from all the chaos of everyday life? The Beach is mine. Growing up in Hawaii meant I was at the beach often. Whenever we stop by I’m reminded of my home and childhood when things were so free, innocent, and pure. Dealing with everyday life can become overwhelming at times. Taking time to do something that makes you happy can give you a reenergized boost that we could all use every once in a while.
On this day, my family and I were on our way home from lunch. My daughter fell asleep and I asked my husband to swing by the beach so I could snap a few shots (and to play with a new lens I just got, haha). As I was walking closer to the water with my son, I felt a sense of calmness, hominess, and safe feeling. I never realized how much just seeing the beach, touching the sand, and hearing the waves could make me feel like this. It was an unplanned stop, which turned out to be just what I needed. Plus my son had a blast digging in the sand and running around while I snapped a few pictures. So when things get busy, or your feel overwhelmed, take some time to find your sacred place or the thing that makes you feel calm and centered again. Enjoy your weekend!
As Mother day approaches, I’m reflecting on how my time as a mother for the past 4 years have flown on by and if things have changed and what I’ve learned.
Fly by years: As I glance down at my kids, I sometimes catch myself and think ‘wow, I remember the day they were learning to walk'. How anxious I was to make sure they were hitting their milestones back when they were babies. Well, they are not babies, they are little mini ME’s of my husband and I. I can’t believe how fast they’ve grown and how much their personalities begin to show more and more each day. How did we get here? Yesterday I was rocking them to sleep on an exercise ball as a baby, and now we are school shopping for my son!! Being a military family puts the saying ‘cherish every moment’ to a whole new level. We never know when my husband will be away. Whether it be training, work obligations or deployments, spending time as a family is important because it may be tomorrow that he’ll be off away at his next task. Time doesn’t stop for us, its up to us to stop and take the time.
Powers of a Superhero: How have things changed since being a mom from Day 1 to now? So much, but not much at the same time….lol…..I’m still needed every second of the day, when I think I have a moment to sit, one kid will need something then the next…..you moms get it right?! We are ALWAYS needed, just in different ways, as they get older. I’ve learned that taking time for myself is important. Sometimes I have to force myself to do things for myself, but I’ve found that it’s made me stronger, more confident and happier about myself. Being a stay at home mom can take over your whole identity, and I’ve learned that it doesn’t have to. Don’t forget who you are and who you were before kids. You are your kids superhero, safe zone, and number one fan. Every superhero has an energy and reboot button, so take the time to step back, reboot your engine when needed and come back being that supermom hero that all moms are! Wishing all the moms, especially my mom, a Happy Mothers day!!
