In these past few weeks I’ve sold, donated, or found another use for things around the house. Sometimes clearing out items in your house can be a very rewarding feeling. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been hard for me to let go of certain things, especially the kids baby stuff, but then I think to myself, there’s no use for it to just sit here in a box, rather, let me give it up and create new memories and use for others.
Slowly I’ve gained the courage to get rid of things that we as a family have just grown out of. My son even knows that if he’s not using his ‘baby toys’ anymore, it’s time to clean out the toy bin. I admit I’ve been one to hold on to things for a while, though my husband is the total opposite. It’s taken a few years, well 10 to be exact lol, but we’ve found a good balance and compromise between what we should keep and shouldn’t. While it’s sometimes sad to let things go, they are just things and the memories will always stay with me. I’ve also found it therapeutic to clear out the old, and make way for the new. Try it in baby steps, I’ve found that selling to consignment stores works best for me. Yes, the sell back may not be as high if I were to sell it myself, but at least I get something out of it, more than I would it just sitting collecting dust. I stick by the rule that if I haven’t used it, seen it, or thought about it in 12 months, that means it’s time to find another home.
